Here is a tip and/or trick that you can do to magically find the time:
Write down everything you do for 3 days in a journal, daily planner or notebook. Everything. It might look something like this:
7:00 – Woke Up
7:00 to 8:00 – Eat, shower, get ready for work
8:00 to 8:30 – Take kids to school
8:30 to 9:00 – Drive to work
9:00 to 5:00 – Work
5:00 to 6:00 – Drive home
6:00 to 6:30 – Dinner
6:30 to 7:00 – Do dishes, straighten up house a little
7:00 to 8:00 – On Facebook playing Candy Crush (did I really spend 1 hour on Facebook)
8:00 to 9:15 – Watch some recorded TV shows
9:15 to 10:00 – Make sure kids are in bed, do a few more chores
10:00 to 11:00 – Watch a little more TV before bed
11:00 – Brush teeth, lay in bed playing a little more Candy Crush on the phone
11:30 – Fall asleep
It would be a good idea to do this for 3 days with 1 day being a non-work day. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or maybe Sunday, Monday, Tuesday if the traditional Saturday/Sunday weekend are your days off. This would give you an idea of when you can exercise on both work days and off days.
My guess is you will find things you can trade for exercise time. TV, Wii or X Box, computer screw-off time, etc. Most of us spend time on these things. If you take 30 minutes (1/48 of your day) to exercise, you will still most likely have time to crush some candy and catch American Idol too. If you want to get really crazy and exercise for 1 hour (1/24 of your day) you might need to make a giant sacrifice – like an entire 1-hour TV show. Insane, I know.
The time to exercise is there. You just have to make it happen.
